'50 Shades of Grey' Movie Casting Christian Grey: Ed Westwick Is Newest Frontrunner For Racy Role
Fifty Shades of Grey movie rumors continue to surface on the Internet at a rapid rate. As of late, there's been a slew of chatter regarding who the fans would like to see play the role of S&M-crazed CEO, Christian Grey.
While most Fifty Shades loyalists are accustomed to hearing household names such as Ian Somerhalder of Vampire Diaries and Matt Bomer of White Collar brought up, a new actor has now been thrust into the candidate pool, Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick.
Shockingly, the 25-year old Brit managed to beat out the two mentioned frontrunners in a recent Grey poll that was conducted by Wet Paint.
To top it off Westwick overcame some serious competition. The actors in the voting also included True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, Henry Cavill of The Tudors and Supernatural's Jensen Ackles.
Well known for playing the part of the upper class weirdo Chuck Bass on his CW hit TV series, Westwick could fit quite naturally into the role of the billionaire. Much like Grey, the Bass character is also emotionally unavailable.
The sexually dominated Fifty Shades of Grey premise revolves around the powerful, rich and kinky Grey, who gets himself involved in a dominant and submissive sexual relationship with a shy college graduate named Anastasia Steele. Through an "agreement," the two delve into the kinky world of bondage and masochism.
Other fan favorites for the Grey role include Les Miserables Eddie Redmayne, Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and Twilight's Robert Pattinson, among many others.
The producers attached to the movie continue to remain tight-lipped on just how their casting approach will ultimately unfold.
Focus Features and Universal Pictures had purchased the rights to the Fifty Shades of Grey film in early 2012. E.L. James' saucy books have now sold well over 60 million copies and the flick is expected to perform just as well.
