The pop trio TLC, which reigned on the top of the music charts in the 1990’s, will have their story told on the silver screen in a yet-to-be named biopic, according to VH1.

At the VIBE Impact Awards on Feb. 8, hip-hop rap legend MC Lyte spilled the beans that America’s Best Dance Crew judge Lil’ Mama has been cast to play the boisterous Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. Lyte took Lil Mama under her wing, becoming a career mentor for the Lip Gloss singer.

“I don’t know if I’m supposed to say, but I will,” Lyte told Hip Hollywood. “[Lil Mama] just got the role of Left Eye in TLC’s new movie.”

The pair is currently working to produce a collaboration record with other female rappers.

“I am so excited for her,” Lyte said. “She is talented young lady. So I want to see her do some beautiful things.”

The 23-year-old rapper - real named Naitia Jessica Kirkland - will be stepping into some pretty big shoes. Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes was the outspoken rapper in the group who always wore attention-grabbing stage outfits and found herself regularly in controversy.

Lil Mama can perhaps relate to the later since she was the subject of public scrutiny following the 2009 MTV Awards, when she hopped on stage during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of Empire State of Mind.

No word yet on who was cast to play the roles of Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

TLC was one of the best-selling girl groups with 55 million album copies sold worldwide. Some of the bands record breaking hits include Waterfalls, Red Light Special and No Scrubs.

‘Left Eye’ died at the age of 30 in a car crash in Honduras on April 25, 2002, while shooting a spiritual documentary. Footage captured by the cameras was used in the documentary Last Days of Left Eye, which aired on VH1 in 2007. The eerie film showed every step of the fatal crash.

The Grammy-winning artist planned to set up a nonprofit educational and medical center in Honduras, which she called her second home.
