After the immense success of Furious 7, and the heartrending farewell to Paul Walker, 2015 became the year of great anticipation of how Fast and Furious 8 would shape up.
Through the year all manner of exciting rumors about the making of the film have surfaced, and as this year comes to the close we bring you the 5 most inviting prospects, which we hope come true in the next year.
Helen Mirren In A Badass Role
There has been many rumors surrounding the possibility of Mirren joining the cast of Fast and Furious 8. The actress had previously expressed her wish to star in the series, even if she only meant it playfully Vin Diesel later revealed that he was completely on board with the idea, and would definitely take her on if she was game. We are hoping the role entails Mirren playing an evil mastermind, or perhaps something in the vein of Judi Dench in the James Bond films.
A Female Dominant Film
2015 was the year of some pretty epic women in action roles, as demonstrated by Mad Max: Fury Road and even Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In an interview, Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz also suggested that direction for Fast and Furious 8, to see more women in powerful roles. Rodriguez also revealed that on her wishlist of cast members for the movie, was Angelina Jolie. Jolie could definitely take on the role as she has plenty of action experience behind her.
Paul Walker's Brother Cast As New Character
This rumor has been doing the rounds for quite some time now. After helping complete Walker's part as Brian O'Connor, his younger brother Cody seems to have been bitten by the acting bug and has also expressed interest in doing more films in Hollywood. In fact his agent also revealed that Cody would be very interested if he were to be offered a part in Fast and Furious 8.
Eva Mendes Returns And Complicates Dominic And Letty's Relationship
Many have also speculated the return of Mendes as Agent Fuentes -- the role she played in Fast and Furious 2 -- in Fast and Furious 8. What's actually more intriguing is the fact that it has been suggested that perhaps Fuentes coming on board might frustrate Dominic and Letty's relationship.
Fast And Furious 8 To Be Dark And Gritty
In a recent interview, Diesel revealed that new director F. Gary Gray will be bringing a darker element to the series. In fact it has also been revealed that the movie will be set in New York and that that might make it a more grittier film.
Fast and Furious 8 will be released on April 15, 2017
