Marvel's Age of Ultron has ushered in the end of the MCU's Age of Whedon.

'Agent Carter' Season 2 Premiere: Peggy's Job Is On The Line In 2-Hour Return, Epiosde Synopsis

Joss Whedon took Marvel by storm with 2012's Avengers, later captivating viewers with the film's sequel. While Jed Whedon is currently busy with Agents of SHIELD, Joss is planning on leaving the MCU behind in search of his next challenge.

"I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase but then I just had to concentrate only on Ultron and sort of know that when it was done, I was just going to stop," Whedon told Oxford Union. "So I made a completely clean break - not because we had a falling out, just because if I was still there going, 'Well, here are my thoughts on this film,' I'd be there every day."

'Teen Wolf' Season 5: 'No One Can Stop' Malia, Will She Kill The Desert Wolf?

That's not to say the Buffy and Firefly creator is lounging poolside with all thoughts of film far from his mind. Far from it - Whedon is currently working on three secret projects that have him on the ropes.

"It's important to me, not just to have my own thing and do something smaller, but also to create a new challenge for myself because I will start to repeat myself," Whedon explained. "As an artist ... I need to make it harder for myself, so I'm working on a few personal projects that I can't describe. But I can tell you that they're really hard, and I'm totally failing, and it feels great."
