‘Killing Fields’ Premiere: Detective Rodie Sanchez Reopens Eugenie Boisfontaine Case From 1997 [EXCLUSIVE, VIDEO]
Discovery Channel is kicking off 2016 with a bone-chilling series called Killing Fields.
Peep 2 Sneak Peeks From First Our Of 'NCIS' & 'NCIS: New Orleans' Crossover!
The premiere episode of Killing Fields airs tonight, Jan. 5. Killing Fields is the network's first true crime series.
It focuses on a group of homicide detectives: retired detective Rhodes "Rodie" Sanchez, who comes out of retirement to reopen the case this series re-investigates and documents; Detective Aubrey St. Angelo; Major Ronald Hebert; Detective Leslie Bradford; Detective Lori Morgan; Detective Jeremy Sanchez; and Detective Brett Stassi, Jr.
What cold case are these detectives reopening? Well, according to the press release it's a case that began in June 1997 in the small town of Iberville Parish, LA, located just 15 miles outside of Baton Rouge. Louisiana State University graduate student Eugenie Boisfontaine was last seen near LSU's lakes. A few months later, her body was found nearby in a watery ditch with evidence of blunt force trauma to her head.
The detectives have reason to believe this murder is part of a bigger string of killings that took place between 1997 and 2003 since there were 60 cases of missing and murdered women in the area that went unsolved. To add difficulty to the case, the Baton Rouge area had multiple serial killers operating at the same time with two of those victims living on the same street as Boisfontaine.
Rodie was assigned the Boisfontaine case in 1997 and never stopped thinking about it, which is why he is officially out of retirement to solve it.
Enstars has an exclusive sneak peek at the premiere, which you can watch below.
There are landscape shots showing how isolated the location of the crime is, which makes it perfect for committing a crime.
A man is then seen, noting, "This place here, so remote. Might bring out the demons there."
It's a desolate location, so it makes sense that it became a dumping ground for dead bodies, which this man later mentions.
Killing Fields premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET on Discovery Channel.
