The young woman who Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen was tweeting during the State of the Union address was not his secret lover; but his daughter, according to NBC.

On Thursday, Cohen (D-Tenn.) held a private press conference in his office with NBC and CBS, telling reporters that a woman who identified herself on Twitter as Victoria Brink was actually his daughter that he discovered three years ago. He later deleted the tweets to Brink.

When initially questioned about the tweets, Cohen's spokesman Michael Pagan said in statement to New York Magazine on Wednesday that Brink was the daughter of the congressman's friend.

"She is the daughter of a longtime friend and they're pretty much like family," he said. "He's known her pretty much her whole life. He has a longtime girlfriend in Memphis."

Some of Cohen's close advisors who were at first concerned about the tweets believed that the congressman should have been more focused on President Obama's speech. However, Cohen couldn't hold back his excitement to hear from his new-found daughter.

"I googled her mother, found out she had a child and the math looked pretty accurate," Cohen told the news station. "The mom told me we had a lot of catching up to do."

"When she let me know she was watching the State of the Union address I was thrilled that she wanted Steve Cohen to be part of her. I had such joy, that I couldn't hold back from tweeting her," Cohen said.

"Cohen was emotional while telling the story about his daughter, fought back tears, could feel genuine fatherly emotion," NBC News reported on Thursday.
