Tom Cruise quietly sold his East Village apartment in New York City this week.

Cruise, 50, sold the 10th floor unit located in the famous American Felt building for $3 million without a real estate agent, according to Zillow.

"He just doesn't really need it anymore," a source told Us Weekly. "He's barely in the city...The only reason to keep it was when he had Suri and Katie and needed a real home in the city for them."

The apartment was relatively small- it measured 2,200 square feet, had two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a third room that he converted into a gym.

The Jack Reacher star has plenty of memories from the apartment he unloaded. All three of his ex-wives- Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers- have either lived there or spent time with him in it, according to reports. Cruise, however, has his eyes set on buying another New York apartment. He is considering either a Manhattan apartment with a garage or a place outside of the city in the suburbs.

"He liked the getaway he was able to do in the Hamptons with Suri, so it's not out of the question," the source added.

Cruise owns multiple homes including a $30 million mansion in Beverly Hills and another in Telluride, Colo.

A New York judge signed off on Cruise's divorce case from Holmes on Aug. 21, 2012, and gave her full custody of their daughter Suri. Holmes moved into a $12,500 a month rental apartment in New York last summer and Suri now attends a private school near their new home in the Chelsea area of Manhattan.

Cruise is expected to attend a hearing on Feb. 28 regarding his $50 million defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media Group. The Mission Impossible actor filed the suit in October after two of their magazines - Life & Style and InTouch - wrote that Cruise had "abandoned" Suri, 6, since his divorce from Holmes.
