In a recent interview, Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight dished about what lies ahead for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) the upcoming episodes of season 17.

Things are going to go pretty out of control for Benson with the cases that lie ahead, and she will be dealing with a good share of PTSD, according to Leight. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Leight spoke about the episode, titled "Townhouse Incident," that will find Benson in the thick of things dealing with a dangerously intense case.

"It almost feels like it takes place in real time at gunpoint in the middle of a home invasion so it has a different clock to it," Leight said. "Benson, a little stressed, steps into a hellish nightmare, drops her guard for a nanosecond and there goes, possibly, her life."

Leight also spoke about the dramatic changes in Benson's life, after having recently adopting baby Noah and Lewis Hoda's escape and death.

"It's different right away for Benson," Leight said. "Is it different to be in this situation when you have a two-year-old at home? One of the things we're toying with is how do you handle the pressures of this job when you're a parent? ... You react differently when you're in danger when there's nobody that you're responsible for at home."

The midseason premiere, titled "Catfishing Teacher," will air on January 6.
