A British newspaper has deemed pop star Rihanna as the new Princess Diana.

In the Feb. 17 edition of The Sunday's Times, Camilla Paglia, a leading feminist claimed that due to her stunning beauty and tumultuous relationship, Rihanna is the new Princess Diana. Paglia argued that the two women share a "ravishingly seductive flirtation with the press."

"Rihanna is in love with the camera, and the camera is in love with her. Not since Diana rocketed from a shy, plump kindergarten aide to a lean, mean fashion machine...," the article reads.

Paglia, an American author and lecturer, said the late Diana and the 24-year-old Bajan beauty were both highly skilled at using every photo opportunity to convey "allure, defiance or revenge."

"Like Diana," writes Paglia, "Rihanna has worryingly drifted into using photo ops to send messages of allure, defiance or revenge in a turbulent relationship with an errant partner."

She argued that the messages are drawn from the pair's turbulent romantic life, and then targets their respective partners Prince Charles and Chris Brown.

She said both women were the victims of a "festering romantic triangle" - Rihanna, between Brown and his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran - and Diana with Prince Charles and Camilla, now his second wife.

Rihanna's self-released images, many of which are published to millions of fans on her social media feeds, have a "genuinely artistic atmospheric eroticism'" that "has not been seen in decades," said in the article.

She used an image that Rihanna posted on her Instagram-- naked from the waist down sitting in front of a fireplace smoking and drinking, and with a fur blanket slung over her head as an example of her "impressive visual archive".

Like Rihanna, Lady Diana Spencer experienced a rapid rise to fame - from one of her first times she had a taste media attention when she posed at the age of 20 outside Young England Kindergarten in Pimlico to the many photo calls, which followed in the next 17 years of her life, according to the Daily Mail.

Rihanna seemed pretty pleased with the comparison. On Sunday, she posted a photo of the Sunday Times Magazine piece to Instagram with the caption:

"Just so happens I came home drunk to this in a pile of papers outside my hotel room! My lil Bajan behind, never though these many people would even know my name, now it's next to Princess Diana's on the front of a newspaper! Life can be such a beautiful thing when you let it be #yourejealous :)"
