There are 24 categories where screenwriters, directors, actors and more will have a chance to win a coveted Academy Award on Feb. 24 and some of the nominees will be at the Oscars for the first time in their careers.

Here are a few of the newcomers up for an award on Sunday.

Quvenzhane Wallis, 9, became the youngest ever Best Actress Oscar nominee for her performance in the end of the world movie Beasts of the Southern Wild, which also garnered a nod for its first time director Benh Zeitlin. Both newcomers represent the film about a 6-year-old named Hushpuppy (Wallis) who learns about courage and love when faced with both her hot-tempered father's failing health and melting ice-caps that flood her simple community. The film is nominated for Best Picture as well as Best Adapted Screenplay.

Adele received her first ever Oscar nomination for her track Skyfall, the theme song for the 2012 James Bond film of the same name. The tune, co-written by the United Kingdom native, received a nod for Best Original Song. Adele already received a Golden Globe and BRIT Award for the song earlier in the year. The mother of one will take to the stage at the Oscars after a long hiatus, where she had a son with her boyfriend Simon Konecki, and she is rumored to perform Skyfall. Other confirmed performers include Barbara Streisand and a musical tribute lead by the cast of Les Miserables.

Amour, a moving love story about an elderly couple, fared well with the Academy, receiving Best Picture and Best Director nominations. A Best Lead Actress mention was given to 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva, who became the oldest Best Actress nominee in the Academy's history. It marks Riva's first Oscar nomination though she has starred in almost 80 films throughout her career, according to IMDb.

Writer of Argo, Chris Terrio, is nominated for an Academy Award for the first time ever in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay. More than one news outlet predicted that in the category of Best Picture, the Ben Affleck-directed film will take home the honor. Fellow nominees in the category include Lincoln, which is up for the most awards of the night: a total of 13.

The 85th annual Academy Awards airs live on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. ET.
