Lady Gaga 'Til It Happens To You': Linda Perry Admits She 'Made A Mistake' Calling Out Pop Star
Diane Warren has essentially responded to the claims by fellow songwriter Linda Perry that her Oscar nominated song, "Til It Happens To You", was not really co-written by Lady Gaga.
And The 2016 Oscar Nominees Are...
Perry caused controversy in the Gaga fan community after claiming that Gaga's role in the songwriting process on "Til It Happens To You" wasn't exactly big enough to warrant an Oscar nomination. Going on a Twitter rant this week, Perry suggested that Warren had written the entire song and was simply using Gaga to get attention to the song as well as a subsequent Oscar nomination.
While Warren didn't directly reply to Perry, she wrote on Twitter about her collaboration with Gaga, implying that it was a shared writing experience:
Twitter Very Mixed On Lady Gaga's Golden Globe Victory
Til It Happens To You was written for The Hunting Ground, an incredibly powerful documentary about sexual assault on college campuses

The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga. As Lady Gaga and I have consistly said. Til it Happens

To you was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they're not alone.

The tweets were also retweeted by Gaga, who did not make any of her own comments on the matter.
Perry has now apologized for causing the firestorm and deleted the tweets, admitting she was wrong.
My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.

More importantly, I wish the focus to remain on the great importance of the song and the message of the film.

It remains to be seen if any of this will have an effect on Oscar voting, but considering voting doesn't begin until Feb. 12, the controversy will probably be long forgotten.
The 2016 Oscars will take place live Sunday, Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, hosted by Chris Rock.
