Lady Gaga A-Rod Bond Over Similar Surgical Procedure, Singer Gets Pep Talk, Details
Injured pop sensation Lady Gaga underwent hip surgery this weekend with support from New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez, who is in recovery for the very same medical operation.
According to The New York Post, Gaga went under the knife on Wednesday to repair the injured hip that forced her to cancel the remainder of her tour, which will reportedly result in collective refunds of up to $30 million.
Interesting enough, Gaga and A-Rod both underwent their similar procedures with top surgeon Dr. Bryan Kelly, who works at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery. The two were seen simultaneously arriving at his Manhattan office this week.
"Alex was at Dr. Kelly's office for a follow-up, while Gaga was preparing for surgery. It's natural for anyone to be nervous ahead of this type of surgery, especially as a performer to make a quick recovery and be back at peak performance... Gaga was anxious, but Alex talked to her for a while and was able to reassure her," said a source close to the musician.
The 26-year-old singer later tweeted that she was going into surgery to repair a labral tear of her right hip, the same injury suffered by Rodriguez on his right hip.
No date has been set for Gaga's return to the stage, and her management team said that she would need to have "Strict downtime."
In a message to her fans, the pop sensation called the surgery "a bump in the road" and said "I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for sometime now." Gaga also said that the injury got so severe that she "could not walk."
Due to the circumstances, she had to cancel dozens of concerts on her Born This Way tour, which brought in $161.4 million in 2012. Gaga had been scheduled to perform on 22 more dates up until March 20.
