Argo took home the award for Best Picture at the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, which aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The film had two award nominations and took home three Oscars on Sunday. (Read director Ben Affleck's acceptance speech here.)

Days before the Academy Awards aired, both The Huffington Post and NBC News (among others) predicted that the Ben Affleck-directed film will take home the award for Best Picture on Sunday. Affleck was not included in the category of Best Director at the Oscars but already took home an award for his work on the film at the Golden Globes, beating Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino Ang Lee and Kathryn Bigelow.

Argo also won Best Drama at the Golden Globes, which aired in January. The film is about the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to rescue six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran and bring them back to the United States without being stopped. Affleck not only directed the film but also starred in it, acting as the lead CIA official on the mission to Iran and back.

Lincoln led this year's nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director for Steven Spielberg, and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones. Day-Lewis was praised for his "remarkable" work portraying the 16th president of the United States.

Les Miserables was up for nine awards at the Oscars and Zero Dark Thirty was up for five.
