As part of a tribute to the revival of big-screen musicals during the last decade, Jennifer Hudson performed her Dreamgirls hit And I Am Telling You at the Academy Awards on Sunday.

The R&B singer won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007 for her role in the film and returned to the Academy stage in a tribute that also included Catherine Zeta-Jones and the cast of Les Miserables. Hudson followed Zeta-Jones' act - in which she reenacted a sing and dance number for her film Chicago - and got a standing ovation at the end of her performance. Dreamgirls helped the 31-year-old win her first Oscar and Dreamgirls was based off of a Broadway musical with the same name.

Hudson, a former American Idol contestant, wore a Kaufmanfranco crystal-encrusted linear radiating column gown for the occasion and when her performance was over, the cameras in the Dolby Theatre showed the impressed faces of Jane Fonda, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jack Nicholson and more.

Performers at the Academy Awards included Adele, Shirley Bassey, Norah Jones and Barbara Streisand. Adele performed her Oscar-nominated song Skyfall from the James Bond film with the same name. The United Kingdom native already won a Golden Globe and BRIT Award for the song. Jones performed the Oscar-nominated song Everybody Needs a Best Friend from the film Ted.

Streisand's performance was only the second time she has sung at the awards show, according to CBS News, and Bassey made her Oscars debut in a special tribute honoring the 50th anniversary of the Bond film series.
