Nicole Kidman recently opened up about how she tries to balance motherhood with her career, and apparently there are some critics out there who aren't too pleased with her comments. The Australian actress opened up as to why she could never be a stay-at-home mother, with some parents wondering if the actress might unintentionally be taking a swipe at them.

Nicole Kidman's Reason For Skipping Her Father-In-Law's Funeral Revealed

In a new interview with Harper Bazaar's print edition (via The Daily Mail), the blond beauty says she is still working in Hollywood because she doesn't want to "live vicariously" through her two daughters. Kidman shares her two children, Faith and Sunday, with country star Keith Urban.

She said, "I don't want to be the mother who lives vicariously through my daughters, so I'm trying to balance it. There was a period where I didn't do anything, and my mum said, 'I really think you need to get back and do something.' I want to be around them, I'm the happiest when I'm around them. It's that simple."

Kidman added, "But for me to completely give up doing any of this, what would I do artistically?"

Some of her fans replied to her comments with, "I agree with her in the sense when you become a mother you can't lose yourself and only be a mother you have to continue to cultivate other parts of your identity, but some people simply don't have that option," along with, "Way to trivialize your whole career, Nicole. You don't work because you're called to it? Because it's the art through which you best express yourself? Because it's your life's obsession? Oh--you work to keep your daughters from assuming too much prominence in your life. Inspiring. That should provide the perfect inspiration for your girls as they grow up."

So far Kidman herself hasn't responded to any of the criticism. For more, picking up the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar, available on newsstands now.
