Al Gore Climate Change Game 'Reality Drops' Released to 'Spread the Truth' About Global Warming, VIDEO
Al Gore is backing the new social media game Reality Drop, which focuses on getting people to talk about the realities of climate change and countering falsely reported information.
The 64-year-old former vice president helped unveil the game at an event in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 28. Gore was quoted by Take Part about the new game that aims to get climate change back into the mainstream consciousness.
"Social networks are the key in helping us move the needle in the right direction...the key is to seed the conversation with reality," he said. "Wherever there is an example of denial in the media, we will give everyone that participates the precise scientific answer to the denial in the story."
The game's website stated that the mission of Reality Drop is to reveal the denial and deception around climate change, spread the truth and clear the way toward real solutions. The website claims that the media does not report correct facts about global climate change and the new game will help people to figure out the reality behind the "false information."
The social game works by aggregating climate-related information from online media sources. A scientifically backed claim is attached to each report marked as false, which a user can then copy and paste in a comment that acts as the titular drop of reality. Users earn points for spreading information, voting on posts and directing people to the Reality Drop website. A leaderboard displays features the site's top users who shared the truth with their friends on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Since leaving the White House Gore has become a champion of awareness for global warming and climate change, which was the center of the 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth. He is also the founder and chairman of the Climate Reality Project.
