Madonna’s Superbowl Jitters: ‘So Nervous’
Who knew the queen of pop still gets stage fright?
Madonna has done her fair share of epic performances, but the veteran entertainer revealed to Anderson Cooper how nervous she actually is for her halftime show this Sunday at Superbowl XLVI.
"Oh my god, I'm so nervous. You have no idea," the superstar told Anderson Cooper in an interview to air on his talk show Thursday.
"First of all, it's the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is kind of like the holiest of holy in America," Madonna, 53, said. "I'm going to come in halfway between the church experience and I'm going to have to deliver a sermon that's going to have to be very impactful." Like a Prayer.
What most people don't realize is unlike her concerts, she's not calling the shots-the game is. Madonna has a strict time limit that is also fueling the anxiety.
"I have eight minutes to set it up and seven minutes to take it down," she said, which gives her just 12 minutes to execute what is arguably the most watched musical performance in the country.
"I have to put on the greatest show on earth in the middle of the greatest show on earth."
When asked to reveal what she'll be doing during the performance, she did give us a spoiler. "I'll be singing," she tells Anderson matter-of-factly.
Don't worry Madonna, just imagine the 70,000 fans in the stadium and the billions at home are in their underwear, no big deal.
