Golfer Rory McIlroy denied rumors that he broke up with his girlfriend, tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.

The 23-year-old pro golfer from Northern Ireland addressed the issue on Thursday stating that the relationship is still ongoing.

McIllroy was quoted by The New York Post addressing media reports that his relationship with Wozniacki on Twitter was not as busy as it had been previously which prompted rumors that they had split.

"I've read what's been written, and just because I have a bad day on the golf course and Caroline loses a match in Malaysia it doesn't mean that we're breaking up,'' McIlroy said. "It's sport. Look, I'd rather keep my private life as private as possible, but everything on that front is great and I'm looking forward to seeing her next week when she gets to Miami.''

McIlroy sparked controversy after he withdrew from the Honda Classic in Florida. He pulled out near the midway point of the second round due to a toothache after placing seven shots on his first nine holes.

He later admitted that it was a mistake to have abandoned the tournament claiming that "It was a reactive decision," according to Sports Mole.

The two star players have been dating for over a year and McIlroy is in the top for his sports rankings while the tennis star has fallen from one to 10, according to Sports World Report.

Wozniacki also stated Wednesday to reporters at the BNP Paribas Open that the break up rumors were not true and that the couple is still working on their public relationship, according to Sports Illustrated.

"We've been in the media spotlight for so long separate as well, you know, so it's not like it's something new," said the 22-year-old tennis star. "I think we've gotten used to that part of it. We don't really pay attention to it anymore. Unless it's a rumor like there was the other day that we've broken up and I was like 'Oh really? I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting me know.'"
