'Hacksaw Ridge' Spoilers: What We Know So Far About The Mel Gibson Comeback [VIDEO]
The filming for Mel Gibson's comeback Hacksaw Ridge is coming along slow and steady and we are far from a trailer and no release date has also been revealed as yet.
But for fans who simply can't wait, Enstars rounds up all that is known about the movie so far.
The World War II themed drama is set to star Andrew Garfield (Amazing Spiderman), and Vince Vaughan (Wedding Crashers). The movie is based on the honourable Desmond T. Doss, who rescued 75 men in Okinawa during the war without using arms. Garfield plays Doss.
"It's about a man who wouldn't touch a weapon and wanted to be part of saving lives in the worst place on earth. I mean Okinawa was an horrific place... there were over 300,000 casualties, mostly civilian," Gibson said of the film in a press conference in Sydney, where the film is being shot.
The Daily Mail also revealed a bunch of on set pictures showing Gibson directing the cast and crew for his next film Hacksaw Ridge.
One picture shows the director in the trenches - dug out in lush green fields - with the cast. The filming is taking place in Sydney, Australia. In other pictures the military setup is made clear with all forms of army vehicles and tents pitched in a cluster. Extras were also spotted on the set, toting guns and uniformed in khaki wear.
This will be Gibson's fifth movie as director, adding to Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto andThe Man Without A Face.
Gibson also spoke about working on the film in Sydney. The actor/director revealed that he was glad to be back making a film in Sydney.
"I'm so glad to be here again, working here again, bumping into people I've known for years, decades, again... and moving forward - it's been great," he said.
Gibson added that the experience was made more special as he was revisiting this space after 35 years.
"It gives me a particular giggle," he said. "I kicked off over 35 years ago here (and) I feel like I've picked up the thread where I left off since last I worked here."
The movie is set to release in 2016.
