In a recent interview with Fox 5, Jesse Usher and Maika Monroe, who are new cast members with a link to old characters in Independence Day: Resurgence, dished about landing their roles and their experience filming for the blockbuster sequel.

Will Smith Responds To His Character Being Killed Off In Resurgence

The actors are set to play the step-son of Will Smith's character and daughter of Bill Pullman's character from the original.

Even though Smith is not reprising his role of Steve Hiller, Usher revealed his excitement at playing Hiller's step son. When asked if he had spoken to Smith when preparing for the role, the young actor revealed he hadn't but did have an interesting story to tell about how he and Smith were connected.

Usher shares the same agent as Smith did 23 years ago, and also added that he was "beyond interested" in being in the Independence Day sequel.

"The day I got the call, Will and Jada were in town meeting his old agent, Ken," he said. "Ken picked up the phone, and he said 'Hang on, I want you to talk to somebody,' and it was Will Smith, and the lady at the Fox office goes, 20 years ago we offered you this role, now we're going to offer it to somebody else."

Usher and Monroe also spoke about perpetually shooting against a green screen being guided by voices as the movie has a whole lot of CGI.

Independence Day: Resurgence will star Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner.

The movie will open theaters on June 24, 2016, with Independence Day just around the corner.
