Jodi Arias Trial Live Stream: Prosecutor Says Travis Alexander Murdered In '62 Seconds' Is 'Impossible' (WATCH ONLINE NOW)
Jodi Arias returned to the witness stand for the 18th time on Wednesday, March 13.
Prosecutor Juan Martinez questioned Arias about how she acquired the murder weapons and committed the horrific crime within a very short time frame.
Martinez presented two photos in the Maricopa County court room- one of Alexander's dead body with blood all over it - then stated that the second image of the victim was taken approximately 62 seconds after the first. The images were found on Alexander's camera and "inadvertently" taken as the crime took place, Arias testified earlier in the trial.
Martinez then referred to Arias' earlier testimony that Alexander body slammed her after she dropped his camera as she took nude pictures of him in the shower, and then she killed him in self-defence. Martinez described Arias' story of how she killed Alexander within his estimated 62 second time window as the pictures were being taken as "impossible."
"Your scenario is impossible," Martinez said.
"Under your scenario, in 62 seconds you get body-slammed, you do whatever you do but you get away," said Martinez. "You run down the hallway, you go in the closet, you grab a gun, you back up, you shoot Mr. Alexander. After you shoot Mr. Alexander, you pick up the camera... and he's already down the hallway with his throat slit," according to a report.
"No, that's not what I'm saying ... after the gun went off ... it started to get more confusing at that point," Arias reportedly answered.
"You didn't have the knife in your hand when you shot him. So that means, if you didn't have the knife in your hand, you had to go get it from somewhere, right?" Martinez asked.
"I don't know," Arias replied.
The jurors submitted more questions as Arias was being questioned by Martinez. Judge Stephens asked her, on behalf of a juror, why didn't she just shoot Alexander again instead of stabbing him over 27 times.
"If you still felt threatened after shooting Travis, why didn't you just shoot him again rather than stab him?" Judge Stephens asked.
"I know that I dropped the gun when he hit me ... I don't remember picking up the knife," Arias replied.
Arias will likely answer more jurors' questions again when she returns to courtroom on Thursday.
The 31-year-old is on trial for the 2008 murder of her ex-lover, Alexander, a 30-year-old Mormon motivational speaker. Arias stabbed her victim over 27 times, slit his throat from ear to ear and shot him in the head. His body was discovered the day he was killed: June 4, 2008. Arias lied twice at first about how he was killed and later admitted that she killed him in an act of self-defense. If Arias is convicted of the murder and the lies that she confessed to, she will likely face the death penalty and become the fourth woman in Arizona's history to die by lethal injection.
