Sister Evangelina is returning to Call the Midwife, but will she be around for much longer?

How Much Longer Will 'Call The Midwife' Stay On The Air?

On Sunday, Carter Matt posted a synopsis of the finale that will likely air in the summertime this year. While Evangelina will be back at work, it was mentioned that she is still facing difficulties with her recent stroke, giving insight that there are more health problems she's going to have to deal with. It wasn't mentioned how serious it would be, but odds are likely there might be something to worry about.

As for other storylines, Dr. Turner will have to accept that the past cannot be changed when a cause of a recent spate of infant limbdeformities has been uncovered. It turns out that he may have had something to do with it so he does what he can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

What Kinds Of Changes Can Be Expected On 'Call The Midwife' Season 5?

Also, Tessie will go through the process of dealing with her granddaughter being conceived out of wedlock. As upsetting as this may be for her, it becomes kind of a miracle when the baby is born at her parents' wedding.

In a previous interview with Radio Times, Stephen McGann (Turner) opened up on how his character's smoking habits could come into full circle in the fifth season.

"In the 1950s they were beginning to suss out the effects of smoking," McGann said. "There was a famous British Medical Journey study done. They wanted thousands of smokers to take part in a long-term survey and they wanted professional people who could be relied on to give good data. Who did they go to? The doctors. Our understanding was actually increased by the Doctor Turners of the world."

Call the Midwife Season 5 is expected to premiere in the United States this April on PBS.
