250th Episode Is 'Pretty Brutal But It's Amazing,' Showrunner Teases
Derek steps into his house, looking a bit nervous and cautious, and as he calls out to his family, all manner of people from his life emerge out of the woodwork, in his tormented imagination of course. His wife, his father, played by Danny Glover, and other members of the BAU. His wife and the crew are all accusatory, reprimanding him for being late for dinner. His wife goes on about how long and hard she works to raise the kids, as she complains, Hotch (Thomas Gibson), David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and J.J. (A.J. Cook) are seen chiming in, demanding he make things work and get home on time for work. There is an element of hilarity in all of this, but the episode is set to be a pretty intense and dark one for Derek.
In an interview with TVLine Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer dished about Derek's character arc and about the next episode dedicated to the character.
Will This Be The Last Chapter Of The CBS Procedural?
"There is a lot going on with Derek," she said. "He's really taking up our emotional head space for a good chunk of this midseason stretch."
In fact a heavy weight has been enlisted to play Derek's father in the episode, titled Derek. TVLine recently revealed that Danny Glover will guest star as Derek's dad in an episode, titled Derek. Showrunner Erica Messer also weighed in on this starry addition for the episode. "It's an interesting role that he plays," Messer said. "The reason Derek needs to call on this protector in this moment and work through some things is really beautifully written by Breen Frazier, and directed by [cast member] Thomas Gibson."
'Derek' will be directed by Thomas Gibson and is set to air on March 2.
