Red Nose Day celebrates its 25th anniversary by airing the live telethon special, Comic Relief - Funny for Money, on Friday.

A host of celebrities will perform songs or something funny in order to raise cash for the British charity Comic Relief. Friday's live eight-hour program will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two, and begins at 7 p.m. GMT U.K. time.

American comedian Will Ferrell will appear in a sketch where he reprises his role as San Diego anchorman Ron Burgundy from Anchorman. The exclusive clip was recorded especially for Red Nose Day. British boy band One Direction will perform this year's official Red Nose Day song, One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks.) The track was inspired by Blondie's One Way or Another and Teenage Kicks by The Undertones. Nick Grimshaw, Nicole Scherzinger and Emeli Sande will also perform their hit songs.

Members of One Direction tweeted their excitement about their participation all week on their individual and One Direction Twitter accounts.

"Excited for @rednoseday today gunna be amazing :D xx (sic)", 1D's Zayn Malik tweeted about Comic Relief.

"Happy @rednoseday ! Lookin forward to today ! Hopefully everyone gets behind a great cause (sic)" Niall Horan added, along with a picture of himself wearing the signature red nose with the caption: "Happy @rednoseday everyone! Nialler x".

British singer Jessie J will shave her head live on television for the charity. The move is part of an annual tradition of a celebrity shorning their locks for Comic Relief. The 25-year-old said she may be get a tattoo on her head afterward to remind her of her brave feat.

"I want something like a heart, so it will remind me that I did it for charity," the Domino singer told UK's BBC Radio 1 on Thursday.

Two of the UK's biggest comedians, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, will appear during the live telecast on BBC Radio 2. The big night of the TV relief effort will see a star-studded line-up of comedians perform as the charity celebrates its 25th anniversary..

British comedic actress Miranda Hart has been doing her part all week by completing a daily challenge everyday for Miranda's Mad March in various cities across England. Hart will appear during the telethon and perform a sketch of her popular television show, Call the Midwife. She will be joined by Jessica Raine, Pam Ferris and Jenny Agutter.

The first Red Nose Day took place on February 5, 1988, in response to famine in Ethiopia and was watched by more than 30 million people. The last Red Nose Day, in 2011, raised a record-breaking almost $150 million.
