Newcomer Samantha Barks Beats Out Taylor Swift for Les Mis Role
The big screen adaptation of Les Miserables already has a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, but the latest addition is a relative newcomer.
Samantha Barks has snagged the role of Eponine in the movie, though it had been widely reported that country singer Taylor Swift would be offered the part. Actress Scarlett Johansson was also said to be in the running.
"Most incredible moment of my life!!!" Barks tweeted.
The 21-year-old stage actress learned she had the part after her performance in Oliver!, when producer Cameron Mackintosh joined her onstage during a curtain call to deliver the good news.
Barks played the role of Eponine on stage for a year.
The movie is set to start filming next month and could hit theaters in December.
