And the cameras were there to catch it all every step of the way.
In an extended teaser for the upcoming episode, Parks is getting the boys, Ayden, 5, and Dylan, 2, ready to see their dad, who is currently serving an eight year sentence after pleading guilty for fraud charges such as identity theft.
The opening of the clip reveals Parks’ lifestyle as a single mother raising two boys as they play together while she attempts to get them ready for the trip. At this moment, they don’t know where they are going just yet.
“I can’t guarantee that we’re gonna be able to see Apollo,” she said. “So I don’t want to get the boys excited then have to disappoint them if we can’t see him.”
She then told her mom she didn’t plan to tell Ayden and Dylan where they were going until they got there.
Her mother then encouraged her, “If you don’t get in, at least you’ve tried to help them see him.”
Parks got lots of flack last year after she hesitated to bring the sons to see Nida in jail. But once he relocated from a facility in Lexington, Ky. to Fort Dixon on the East Coast, she had a change of heart.
“My mom is my rock,” Parks said. “The pilgrimage to visit Apollo at Fort Dixon is going to be very emotional for me and the children. Even though they’re not sure where we’re going, I know.”
Parks then said they had to get everything in line to make sure they met the requirements to be able to see him.
Her mom then revealed the reality of what could happen once the boys had to leave Nida. Parks said that she has also heard stories of children being “traumatized” after leaving a parent in prison.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs on Bravo Sundays at 8/7c.
