Arias, who testified for 18 days throughout the six-week trial that started in early January, was charged for the brutal murder of her ex-lover Alexander, a 30-year-old Mormon motivational speaker. Arias stabbed her victim over 27 times, slit his throat from ear to ear and shot him in the head. His body was discovered the day he was killed: June 4, 2008.
Arias lied twice at first about how he died and later admitted that she killed him in an act of self-defense. The day she admitted to the horrific crime, on July 15, 2008, Arias was laughing, asking about her make-up to police during her interrogation interview and when authorities stepped out of the room, her attitude completely changed.
A released video showed Arias laughing and acting bizarre by playing with a garbage can and later, she did a 20-second headstand against the room's wall. Arias is seen talking to herself and singing a song with the lyrics, "it might change my memory."

Richard Samuels, a PhD psychologist, testified on March 14 that Arias has post-traumatic stress disorder. The defense expert based his findings on his therapy sessions with Arias. He had met with her 12 times over the course of three years she spent in jail. Samuels supported Arias' "foggy" memory issues she claimed is the reason why she cannot recall how and exactly when she stabbed her victim at least 27 times.
Samuels testified that Arias lied about the crime at first because a person with PTSD "cannot deal with the fact that something they did is so opposite from everything else in their life," according to Fox News.
If Arias is convicted of the murder and the lies that she confessed to, she will likely face the death penalty and become the fourth woman in Arizona's history to die by lethal injection.
