Kate Upton Prom Fan Request, Sports Illustrated Model Responds Via Twitter and ‘Today’ Show [Video]
Kate Upton responded to a prom request by high school student Jake Davidson, who uploaded a comedic yet convincing video on YouTube asking the model to be his date.
In the video 17-year-old Davidson, from Los Angeles, asked if he can call her "Katie" and take her to his prom on May 23. The model and Sports Illustrated cover girl tweeted early Wednesday morning, "you can call me Katie if you want! How could I turn down that video! I'll check my schedule ;)."
Davidson's video went viral and he ended up speaking about it in an interview on the Today show on Wednesday morning. He said he is very hopeful Upton will say "yes," especially after she tweeted that she would check her schedule.
"Prom's always been a big deal," he said in the interview. He said got the idea a couple of months ago and talked about it last week with family friend Talia Meyers, who goes to the University of Southern California and studies video.
"Well besides the obvious, she's obviously really pretty," he said when asked why he asked Upton to prom instead of another celebrity. "She's young, we're close in age. I don't know. Give it try, see what happens."
Upton joined the interview on the phone, much to Davidson's surprise. She asked him how he feels being on the Today show after making the video, to which he nervously answered, "This just got so much better now that you're on the phone."
Upton thanked him for making the video and said she thought it was creative and hilarious. He pitched his proposal once again on air, saying it would be a great night and he might be able to get his curfew extended.
She said, "Well I definitely still have to check my schedule, but you seem like so much fun. And if everything works out, I'd love to go with you. I know we'd have a blast."
