'50 Shades of Grey' Movie Casting Update: Stephen Amell Acknowledges He's a Christian Candidate, VIDEO
Fans eagerly wait to hear confirmed casting details about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie and who will ultimately land the role of the S&M-crazed CEO, Christian Grey.
One of the names that has come up in the past and may now very well be a frontrunner is Arrow's Stephen Amell. The TV star increased Grey casting speculation on Thursday when he posted a video on Facebook that responded to chatter of his getting the film's lead male role.
"I get questions about Christian Grey all the time. That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off," he said in the video.
Amell then stressed that the saucy flick is still a long ways away from going into production: "I mean, not that long... but not close. I wouldn't call it long... but I wouldn't call it close."
The actor's six-pack along with the rest of his chiseled looks are what make him a strong candidate for the part, according to The International Business Times. In his hit TV series, Amell dons the role of a billionaire playboy by day and fights off crime by nightfall. To top it off, he even possesses a lot of the attributes that the Grey character has, including a scarred chest.
Other fan favorites for the Grey role include Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne, Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder, Gossip Girls' Chace Crawford and White Collar's Matt Bomer.
Up until this point, the producers attached to the film have remained discreet on how they'll approach the casting process.
Early in 2012, Focus Features and Universal Pictures purchased the rights to Fifty Shades. The racy novel has now sold well over 60 million copies and the movie is expected to do just as well.
