Matthew Knowles recently spoke out about his relationship with daughter Beyonce and how he felt when he stepped away from managing his superstar daughter's music career.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Matthew revealed that he found it "incredibly painful" to cut his business venture with Beyonce.

In 2011, after working together for almost two decades, Beyonce announced that her father would be stepping aside as a manager. At the time, many rumors swirled that the father and daughter relationship was broken, although the two insisted their personal relationship never changed.

Matthew spoke with the publication in his office in Houston, Texas, and also shot down claims that he mismanaged Beyonce's finances when he was in charge of her career.

"This was not a normal ending of a business agreement. This was a dad and a daughter and... it had some difficulties."

Matthew first started managing Beyonce when she was part of Grammy award-winning girl group Destiny's Child before she launched her solo career in 2003.

Beyonce released the 2011 statement that announced her business split from her father that stated: "I am grateful for everything he has taught me..I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hard-working entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps."

In a interview with Oprah Winfrey during Beyonce's special of Oprah's Next Chapter, the Run The World singer said: "One of the hardest things I've ever done (was letting him go). Someone you love, someone that's given you life... someone that did a fantastic job. It's hard."

Matthew said that although it was hard for both of them to let each other go, he has hopes to one day manage Beyonce's career again. But for now Matthew is focused on playing the role of grandfather to Blue Ivy and younger daughter Solange's son Daniel.

"The beauty of being a grandad is you can always give them back. You get to do all the fun stuff and not the harder things."
