The day will officially arrive this week on Days of Our Lives where fans will have to say goodbye to fan favorite and legacy character Eric Brady, as the character exits the canvas following Greg Vaughan's being let go late last year.

Vaughan's contract extension allowed him to finish up Eric's arc, which will likely end with the character heading off to jail for an extended period of time after his drunken driving on New Year's Eve led to Dr. Daniel Jonas's heartbreaking and unexpected death.

Now, in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, he has opened up about being let go from the soap and reveals that fans will see Eric for the final time on the Friday, April 15 episode.

"Of course, there's disappointment because this is your livelihood, and you have children to think about," he told the magazine about his exit. "In hard times, you've got to make difficult choices and it really affected us in a lot of ways."

"I was also disappointed because you never think you're going to be the person to get the call," he continued. "It was kind of like going back to when I was at GH and got that call that I was let go and Jonathan [Jackson] was coming on [to reclaim the role of Lucky]. That's why I never emotionally get comfortable anywhere anymore, so it was easier to kind of accept."

Vaughan has portrayed the role of Eric Brady from 2012, and was previously Lucky Spencer on General Hospital from 2003 to 2009, and Diego Gutierrez on The Young and the Restless from 2002 to 2003.

He is also not the only character to be exiting the soap in the coming months. Kate Mansi, who portrays Abigail Devereaux, opted not to renew her contract at the end of last year, and is expected to exit in the next two months as a result. Also exiting are Martha Madison (Belle Black- Brady) and Shawn Beemer (Shawn Brady), who returned to reprise their roles for the show's 50th anniversary last year, as well as newcomers Marie Wilson (Summer) and Sal Stowers (Lani Price), after all four actors were let go from the show.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
