Prince Death Date: 'Purple Rain' Musician Passes Away At 57 [UPDATING]
Prince, the Academy Award- and Grammy Award-winning singer known for "Purple Rain", "Kiss" and many other hits died today at the age of 57. Sources originally reported a dead body being found at Paisley Park, though the identity was later confirmed as Prince by his publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure.
TMZ broke the news as law enforcement originally stated they were not releasing the victim's identity until the next of kin had been notified. This afternoon Sheriff Jim Olson of the Carven County Sheriff's Office released a statement confirming the deceased was indeed the celebrated musician.
Prince was found unconscious in an elevator at Paisley Park, his $10 million estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota. First responders administerd CPR to no avail. Prince was declared dead at 10:07 a.m. There were no signs of foul play.
Prince, whose full name is Prince Rogers Nelson, reportedly had a medical emergency on April 15 which forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. Though Prince was hospitalized for a few hours, he did appear at a concert the following day, assuring fans he was okay.
Prince's reps claim he'd been suffering from the flu.Rumors regarding the entertainer's health continue to circulate with many wondering if his illness may have worsened. Prince was spotted on multiple occasions this week at Walgreens pharmacy, his latest visit as recent as yesterday evening.
In 2009, Prince revealed on Tavis Smiley's PBS talk show that he was epileptic as a child.
No cause of death has been revealed as of yet.
