Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth Engagement: Nick Jonas is Happy for Them, She Said She Once Loved Him
Miley Cyrus' ex-boyfriend, Nick Jonas, said he is happy about her engagement to Liam Hemsworth and ended rumors of them reigniting their once romance, saying they are now friends and nothing more.
Jonas and Cyrus, both 20, were rumored to have met up for lunch in Los Angeles on March 25, five days after Hemsworth returned to the states after working in the Philippines. The two singers broke up at the end of 2007 and since then have remained friends. Jonas told E! recently, "We're really friendly."
"We've got a good relationship. I'm happy for her and Liam," he added.
When asked about rumors that he met Cyrus for lunch, Jonas made a joke instead of answering the question. He said, "I think that it's one of those things that it's like, there are a lot of people that look like me I guess in that particular town. Maybe they're running around meeting with Miley."
Cyrus was more forward in addressing rumors that she met Jonas recently. She reportedly tweeted on March 27, "I literally haven't seen Nick Jonas in years. Don't believe everything you read folks. Why are magazines allowed to publish straight bull s**t."
"I couldn't have 'ran' into anyone because I haven't went to eat out in public in weeks because of the amount of paparazzi outside my house," she added.
The Twitter posts have since been deleted.
In 2008, a year after she broke up with Jonas, Cyrus opened up about their relationship to Seventeen magazine. She told the publication, "We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met."
Cyrus was 14 when they dated and she said, "He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, 'I think you're beautiful and I really like you.' And I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I like you so much.'"
"Nick and I loved each other," Cyrus admitted. "We were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7."
She added, however, that their relationship was strained by them "arguing a lot."
