While there's no doubt that Nicole Kidman is a versatile actress who has definitely showed off her acting chops on the big screen numerous times, it looks like she might be vying for another Oscar nod here with her career goals. The Australian actress recently revealed that she has no interest in playing a flawless woman on the big screen (similar to her role in The Stepford Wives) as she is actively pursuing "messy" roles instead.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kidman--who is married to country star Keith Urban--says that she loved playing an alcoholic and slightly insane woman in her upcoming film, The Family Fang. She says that even though many of her fans see her as a perfectly poised woman on the red carpet, she wants to be anything but that on the big screen.

The blonde beauty explained, "I'm very interested in messy, because everything is messy, even if it doesn't look so."

She added, "And I'm also interested in truth and authenticity. I'm very drawn to the complications of things, and I think that's probably from growing up reading the literature I read. I mean, think about Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, that's just messy, messy. Right now I'm reading Elena Ferrante and that's messy. And that's what I'm drawn to. The sugarcoated, rose-colored-glasses kind of art is probably not my best milieu."

As far as one day directing a film herself, Kidman said, "No, no. It's not my tone. I've been offered things to direct, but I would have to feel it from the deepest part of who I am so that it would flow out of me. I wouldn't want to be struggling to tell the story. I've been offered things to direct, but if it doesn't happen in my lifetime then I won't do it."
