In a "brave" move, Demi Lovato tweeted a photo of herself without makeup to all her more than 12 million followers, inspiring them to show their natural looks.

Lovato, 20, who has openly spoken about her low self-esteem and body insecurities in the past, took a close-up picture of herself with the following caption: "Ladies, be brave today.. take off your make-up and stop using those filters!! WE are beautiful!!!."

The picture was retweeted more than 60,000 times.

In response, many of her female fans replied with pictures of themselves without makeup and Lovato posted their pictures on her own Twitter account.

The singer threw several compliments to her fan's pictures: "Look at how pretty you are!!!"

"Don't bleh that! look at that skin!!" Lovato wrote to another.

Lovato has spoken out for many young girls that struggle with their appearance before. She confessed before that she has had to deal with eating disorders and issues like self cutting and bipolar disorder.

But late last year, she said that he confidence was better.

"Mean comments don't affect me the same way [the used to] because I'm more confident. If I read something where someone calls me a b*tch, I know I'm not, so I laugh at it," she said in an interview with Self magazine.

The singer recently confirmed that she is going to return as a judge of The X Factor 2013. She is also releasing her fourth studio album in May 14.
