Vanessa Hudgens Lived in Homeless Shelter to Prepare for Movie Role
Actress Vanessa Hudgens says she lived in a homeless shelter for two weeks prior to filming the drama Gimmie Shelter in order to get into character.
In the film, which debuts this weekend, she stars as a homeless and pregnant teen.
"I actually went and stayed in a shelter for two weeks before I started filming," the 23-year-old actress told Rachael Ray on the show airing Friday. "I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it's really interesting because you find so much more about yourself."
She also revealed a more unusual way to get into character.
"I actually cut my own hair for this movie. I did that to myself, yes I did," Hudgens says, adding that she and co-star Rosario Dawson "both look so messed up in this movie."
