Zayn Malik and longtime girlfriend Perrie Edwards have been going strong but many reports perhaps jumped to conclusions by stating that the two singers are engaged.

Edward's mother denied via Twitter on Tuesday that her daughter is engaged. When asked by a fan if the couple is engaged, Deborah Edwards wrote "not that I have heard."

It was reported on Tuesday that the One Direction singer was ready to propose to his girlfriend of one year. A source told Reveal magazine about the couple, who were first linked in April of 2012, "Zayn's ready to settle down and take the next step with Perrie."

"They've been discussing getting engaged with family and friends and everyone thinks it's a great idea," the source added. "Zayn's deadly serious about it and it looks like he could propose at any time."

Malik has openly expressed his affection for Edwards in the past. A recent instance was on Tuesday, when he took to Twitter and complimented Perrie by saying she was "fit." Back in January Perrie via Twitter wished Malik a "massive happy birthday."

The alleged insider also told the magazine that Perrie said an engagement could come "as early as the summer" and that they would follow it with a big wedding.

Malik's mother is supportive of the relationship between the two singers, engagement or not. When asked by a fan on Twitter what she thought of "Zerrie," she replied "special."
