Singer and musical icon Paul McCartney is still Britain's wealthiest musician, The Sunday Times Rich List reported.

The newspaper estimated Thursday that the former Beatle member shares a 680 million-pound, ($1.05 billion) fortune with his third wife, Nancy Shevell, whose family owns a U.S. trucking company. Shevell, who is the frontwoman to a US transport firm is said to be worth £150 million alone.

Since 1989, McCartney has topped the list every year since it was started.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is ranked second, with an estimated 620 million-pound fortune.

Singer Adele has landed at the top of the Young Music Rich List poll with a fortune estimated at £30 million. The Skyfall singer racked in £10 million in the last year, despite taking a break to recover from a throat operation and also giving birth to a baby boy. Former Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole came in second place with an estimated worth of £14 million.

The One Direction band - Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - landed on the the list for the first time this year, worth an estimated £5m each.

Adele is best known for her album 21, which was the best-selling album in the world for the second year in a row in 2012 with more than 8 million sales.

The list of the UK's richest young musicians is dominated by females consisiting of: Leona Lewis, Katie Melua, Jessie J, Lily Allen and Charlotte Church.
