Liam Hemsworth: Miley Cyrus No Show at MTV Movie Awards to Support Liam, Working on Engagement?
Liam Hemsworth took to the stage at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday to debut a new trailer for his film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but he attended the awards ceremony without his fiancée Miley Cyrus.
The 23-year-old introduced new footage from the film, expected to be released November 2013, but many paid attention also to the fact that he showed up to the event alone.
The couple was planning to get married in June but an insider told Life & Style magazine earlier in March that wedding plans have been put on hold.
"There have been so many problems with them, they thought it was best to work out their issues before making such a big commitment," the insider added.
Both stars have since been focusing on their careers. Cyrus, 20, is working on her upcoming album. A release date has yet to be announced but the singer was photographed entering the studio on March 29 and shortly after she tweeted, "Just recorded a banger." She also provided lyrics for Snoop Lion’s new song Ashtrays and Heartbreaks.
Hemsworth is shown in newly released stills from Catching Fire, released on April 12. In one picture fans see his character Gale Hawthorne get dragged away by the Capitol's Peacekeepers. The Australian-born actor will have a more prominent role in the franchise's second film, as he helps Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) fight against the Capitol.
Cyrus and Hemsworth started dating in 2009 after they starred together in The Last Song. They got engaged on May 31, 2012, and he proposed with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from jeweler Neil Lane.
