Destiny's child band member Kelly Rowland is reportedly in talks to replace Britney Spears in season 3 of The X Factor USA.

Rowland, 32, who appeared in UK's version of The X Factor in 2011, is said to be "most definitely in the mix" for Fox's hit singing competition reality show when it returns to air on the network this fall.

Cowell has yet to confirm Rowland's position with the American version of the show he created.

Rowland has been busy ever since she reunited with her Destiny's Child band mates during Beyonce's Super Bowl halftime show at the New Orleans Mercedes Superdome on Feb 3.

Later that month, Rowland became a host on the red carpet at the 2013 Academy Awards on Feb. 24.

Rowland recently released a new single, Kisses Down Low, which will appear on her fourth as-yet-released album, Talk A Good Game.

Spears reportedly quit The X Factor USA after just one season in December because she learned that she would not have been asked to return for Season 3.

"Spears was not going to be asked back and so she will not return for season three," a source told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.

Another source said Spears quit before Cowell fired her for being "boring."

"The reality is that toward the end of last season the main players knew they wanted to replace both Britney and LA Reid," a source told Mail Online. "Britney's judging was heavily criticized throughout the last season, with critics dubbing her 'boring'."

The source added that Spears also left because "her team knew it was unlikely she'd be asked back as a judge."

"The producers have already been making other plans for next season over the holidays," added the insider.

Another insider shared that Cowell felt she wasn't worth the $15milllion salary she was paid. Cowell's team and the show's producers expected her to be more upbeat during the show's tapings.

"They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps," a source told Us Weekly.

A Spears insider told TMZ she left on her own accord to put out new music and go on a world tour. The source, whom the gossip site described as "unimpeachable," said Spears is presently in the studio working on her eighth album. The source added that she really likes Cowell but she will instead put all of her attention on recording new music.

"Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato but her thing is music," the source told TMZ.

Fox announced that Demi Lovato will return to the third season of The X Factor on March 30. The Give Your Heart A Break singer shared her excitement in a statement.

"I am so excited to return as a judge and mentor on The X Factor," Lovato said. "Last season was an unbelievable experience and I really enjoyed developing personal relationships with the contestants and the panel. I look forward to taking my previous experience and applying it to make this season even better!"

Cowell expressed his desire for Lovato's return in a recent interview.

"I couldn't be happier that Demi wants to come back this year," Cowell told Seacrest on his radio show. "She's a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year. Even though she can be really, really annoying-I truly enjoyed working with her and so did the artists. I'm especially pleased she's back, even during her world tour!"

Fox has yet to announce who will replace L.A. Reid who will not return next season.
