Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Wedding is Not Definite, Billy Ray Cyrus Says
Billy Ray Cyrus said in a recent interview that he does not know if his daughter Miley Cyrus will in fact get married to Liam Hemsworth, though the couple has been engaged for almost a year.
The country singer was a guest on ABC's Nightline Monday to promote his memoir Hillbilly Heart when he was asked about his daughter's engagement and upcoming wedding plans. Journalist Bob Woodruff asked about the difficulty of writing a book when things can change, specifically referencing Miley's engagement.
"As I was writing the book, I wanted to keep that particular moment as open-ended as possible," Billy Ray replied. "I didn't know the answer. They're young. They're kids. The great news is they're great friends. They're really, really good friends. If you end up getting married, that's your business too, you know."
When Woodruff asked if the singer thought Miley could marry Hemsworth, Billy Ray replied, "I don't know. I play it by ear."
"And I know whatever is meant to be, that's the way it's going to happen," he added.
Miley, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, got engaged in May of 2012 when he proposed with a 3.5-carat diamond ring. The couple started dating in 2009 after they starred together in The Last Song.
They planned on getting married in Palm Springs, Calif., in June, but an insider told Life & Style magazine recently that wedding plans have been put on hold.
"There have been so many problems with them, they thought it was best to work out their issues before making such a big commitment," the insider added.
Cyrus added fuel to the fire when she posted on Twitter on April 9 a photograph of herself without her engagement ring on. Back in March she again was spotted without her ring, but took to Twitter to confirm that her wedding is not cancelled.
"I am so sick of La. And sick of the lies that come with it. I didn't call off my wedding. Taking a break from social media. #draining," she tweeted.
