'Splash' ABC Episode 5 Recap: Katherine Webb Quits, Louie Anderson Returns & Quits (VIDEO)
This week on ABC's Splash, the audience was surprised to learn that contestant Katherine Webb had to quit the reality show over doctor's orders so Louie Anderson returned to week 5 on Tuesday. Splash's contest rules allows the last person that was eliminated to return if another contestant quit.
Anderson's return, however, did not end well - he decided to quit the show when he landed in the bottom two; one of two contestants with the lowest scores. After Anderson said he didn't think he could go any further, he said competing was the "bravest thing he ever did."
Steve Foley, one of the show's judges, gave Anderson seven points and commended the comedian, saying he doesn't know any "400 lb. person who's ever (done what Anderson did.")
"That's 399 lbs," Anderson corrected him.
This week, all of the contestants performed a dive off of the highest board used on the show since it began - a 10 meter platform that was 33 ft. in the air. They fell at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour which resulted in some of the reality stars getting bruised and bloodied from the stunts.
In week 3, former Playmate Kendra Wilkinson quit the show over her fear of heights.
Wilkinson was so fearful of diving off of the 23-foot high board that she quit the show, which resulted in her being eliminated.
"I'm so sorry, everybody," Wilkinson, 27, said while visibly upset. "This is the first time in my life I've quit something. This will haunt me for the rest of my life."
Anderson almost quit earlier in the season before he was eliminated. He bruised a rib during practice in March.
"Louie Anderson bruised his ribs at practice yesterday," his rep told Access Hollywood. "He is resting and will continue in the competition in spite of the injury."
The four remaining contestants will compete on Splash next Tuesday at 8/7 Central on ABC.
Last week, during episode 4 of ABC's surprise hit Splash, Katherine Webb narrowly avoided an elimination. The former Miss Alabama 2012 pageant winner finished second to last after performing a weak dive. Anderson then came in last and was eliminated. Surprisingly, Anderson's cut was a surprise- he has been considered a fan favorite even for Webb herself who cried when Anderson departed.
