Cannes Film Festival 2013 DATES, LIST: 'Great Gatsby,' Liberace Biopic, 'Bling Ring' & More (VIDEO)
The head of the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival announced the list of films that will compete during the high profile competition from Paris, France on Thursday.
Several highly anticipated as-yet-released flicks will screen at the world's most luxurious film fest. Leonardo DiCaprio's The Great Gatsby, will open on May 15. French actress Audrey Tatou will serve as mistress of the opening and closing ceremonies. Zulu, which is starring Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker, will close this year's festival.
Several of Cannes' Film Festival regulars have been included in the competition inlcuding Steven Soderbergh, Coen Brothers and Roman Polanski.
Soderberg's Liberace biopic, Behind The Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon is going head-to-head against Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis starring Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman. Also included in the competition: The Immigrant starring Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard, Polanski's Venus In Fur and Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian) with BenecioDel Toro.
Other films scheduled to be screened but are not in the competition are Robert Redford's All Is Lost, Ryan Gosling's Only God Forgives, James Franco's As I Lay Dying and Mohammed Ali's Greatest Fight by Stephen Frears. Sofia Coppola's Bling Ring will open the Un Certain Regard portion of the film festival.
