Lovebirds and single folks around the country helped The Vow earn a whopping $11.6 million to set a new Valentine's Day box office record.

The tearjerker became the highest grossing midweek Valentine's Day movie since Will Smith's matchmaking Hitch in 2005.

Yesterday's numbers bring The Vow's five-day total to $56.1 million. The Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams movie made $41.2 million over the weekend, surpassing initial estimates and making it the biggest debut for production company Screen Gems.
