Lady Gaga was nowhere to be found in the 2016 Emmy nominations that were announced this morning.

Gaga was on the ballot for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for playing The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel but she was passed over. That category is comprised of Kirsten Dunst from Fargo, Felicity Huffman and Lili Taylor from American Crime, Audra McDonald from Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill and Sarah Paulson from The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

This happened despite Gaga winning the Golden Globe earlier this year, showing that a Globe win doesn't always mean future Emmy success.

However, two of Gaga's American Horror Story: Hotel are nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Paulson, who played Hypodermic Sally and Billie Dean Howard, received a nomination here, in addition to Kathy Bates, who played Iris. This is the third year in a row that Bates has been nominated in this category, while it's the fifth year in a row that Paulson has been nominated, though this is the first time she's been double nominated.

While Gaga's lack of a nomination may be upsetting, it's clear that Emmy voters have either grown weary of American Horror Story or they just didn't like this season. The first four seasons each received between 17 and 19 Emmy nominations, but Hotel received just eight - and mostly for the technical categories.

Meanwhile, Gaga's original song "Til It Happens to You" from The Hunting Ground was in fact nominated for Outstanding Music & Lyrics, but Gaga was not credited as a co-writer. Instead, the nomination just says "Music & Lyrics by Diane Warren".

While Gaga won't be putting an Emmy on her mantle this year, she is plenty busy in her regular job as a pop superstar. The singer is working on her fifth studio album, colloquially referred to as "LG5", which is slated to come out later this year.
