The San Diego Police Department is currently on high alert, after two of its officers were shot in the city's Southcrest area on Thursday. The shooting, which happened at about 11 p.m. on Thursday, was confirmed by the city's police department through its official Twitter account.

The two police officers who were injured in the incident were immediately rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where their condition remains unknown. Nevertheless, the police department has asked the community for prayers in order to help the wounded officers and their families at this trying time.

Due to the incident, police have been mobilized in the Southcrest area. As of 12:50 a.m. on Friday, residents in the area have noted that police officers are currently searching the area with numerous patrol cars and helicopters.

A SWAT team has also been deployed. Raul Meza, who lives in the area, has reported to NBC 7 San Diego that the mobile units being deployed by the authorities were so many, he could barely even count them.

"I couldn't even tell you how many cop cars were racing down the freeway. I've never seen anything like that before," he wrote.

Authorities searching the area have advised residents to stay indoors, at least while the hunt in the area is in full swing.

The intensive search of the area has already rendered results, as the police were able to apprehend one suspect that is alleged to have been connected to the shooting. A search for the suspect's possible accomplices is still underway.

While one suspect is already in custody, however, authorities currently do not have any description of the other suspects they are looking for.

The San Diego incident is the latest act of violence against police officers in the United States. Just recently, Dallas and Baton Rouge became the sites of arguably the deadliest incidents of violence against people of uniform in recent years.
