Hillary Clinton Update 2016: Candidate Secures Democratic Nomination, Does She Have What It Takes To Beat Trump? [VIDEO]
It was a long and tiring journey, but on Thursday night, Hillary Clinton's fight for the Democratic nomination finally came to an end, as the controversial candidate and aspiring first female president accepted her party's nomination. Doing so has placed Clinton's name in history as the first female candidate to lead a presidential ticket.
The temperament of the crowd on Thursday was upbeat and festive, a notable contrast to the tension prevailing on the first day of the Democratic National Convention. On Wednesday, Clinton had to deal with a number of presidential aspirant Bernie Sanders' supporters, who made their voices heard.
Nevertheless, as she accepted the party's nomination, Clinton appeared very proud and happy. Her acceptance speech, which was rather pragmatic compared to the speeches of her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton and current U.S. President Barack Obama, was nonetheless optimistic and honest.
"When there are no ceilings. the sky's the limit," she said.
Clinton was quick to mend ties with Sanders and his supporters during her acceptance speech, with the Democratic nominee specifically addressing his supporters and assuring them that she would support their cause.
"I want you to know, I've heard you. Your cause is our cause. Our country needs your ideas, energy, and passion. That's the only way we can turn our progressive platform into real change for America. We wrote it together. Now let's go out there and make it happen together," she said.
As Clinton's speech was riddled with applause from the audience and from her fellow Democrats, the first female presidential candidate turned her attention to Trump, the GOP front-runner, and also one of her harshest critics.
"Don't let anyone tell you we don't have what it takes," Clinton said. "Most of all, don't believe anyone who says: 'I alone can fix it.' Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying. It truly is up to us. We have to decide whether we all will work together so we all can rise together," she stated.
She also targeted one of Trump's most notable characteristics -- his temper.
"Ask yourself. Do you really think Donald Trump has the temperament to be commander in chief? Donald Trump can't even handle the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign. A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons," Clinton asserted.
True enough, Republican nominee Donald Trump immediately took to the internet to bash Clinton, once more stating that she is behind most of the problems embroiling America and the world today.
"No one has worse judgment than Hillary Clinton - corruption and devastation follow her wherever she goes. Hillary's wars in the Middle East have unleashed destruction, terrorism and ISIS across the world," Trump stated.
Looking at the events of Thursday, however, especially Trump's immediate fiery reaction, it would seem like Clinton definitely has the GOP nominee's number. On the night she won the Democratic nomination, Clinton successfully baited Trump once more.
