Murdoch to Pay Legal Costs for Arrested Reporters, Launch New Paper
News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch said today the company will cover the legal expenses of journalists writing for its UK's Sun newspaper who were arrested last week for allegedly bribing police and public officials.
Murdoch said in a memo to staff obtained by CNN that a panel independent of News International -- a News Corporation subsidiary -- is working with authorities to turn over any company evidence.
"We are doing everything we can to assist those who were arrested -- all suspensions are hereby lifted until or whether charged and they are welcome to return to work. News Corporation will cover their legal expenses.
"Everyone is innocent unless proven otherwise," he said. The Sun employees have been released on bail and no charges have yet been filed against them.
Amid the crisis, Murdoch says he will launch a Sunday edition of the Sun "very soon."
"Our duty is to expand one of the world's most widely read newspapers and reach even more people than ever before," he said.
