'Dexter' Season 8 Spoilers: Does Matthews' Meatier Role Mean More Trouble For Dexter's Unraveling Secret? [VIDEO]
Still a couple months away from its season 8 premiere, Showtime's Dexter has been heavily gearing up for its return.
According to the Dexter Daily, Geoff Pierson (Matthews) will be given a meatier role on the show in wake of Maria LaGuerta's (Lauren Velez) death.
Matthews played a crucial part last season, as LaGuerta began sharing her suspicions of Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher with him.
Although Matthews did attempt to investigate LaGuerta's theory without leaving any stones unturned, all he found was what he thought was additional evidence supporting Doakes as the person behind it.
Since last season saw Matthews retire, it can only be assumed that he'll be making a come back to the force.
Batista was also aware of LaGuerta's feelings toward Dex, which could result in an interesting dynamic between the two moving forward.
Nonetheless, with his serial killer ways not such a secret any longer, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) will surely have the cards stacked against him like never before.
In season 7 Dexter's sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) was a rock in a hard place, forced to shoot LaGuerta in order to keep her brother's freedom intact.
Debra hasn't had the easiest of times staying tight-lipped onto Dexter's ongoing secret, previously trying to help him change his slaying ways to no avail.
The intense drama won't stop there, as killer florist and Dexter love interest, Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah McKay), is set to make her return.
McKay, mostly known for playing Agent Sarah Walker on the NBC television series Chuck, took to Twitter on April 10 to reveal that she'll officially be coming back:
"Yes..she is coming back to shake things up for Dexter a little...just to add to the turmoil :)."
Dexter will be kicking off its eighth season on Sunday, June 30, at 9 p.m. EDT. Keep checking back for the latest scoop on America's favorite serial killer.
