It was a tough blow to France over the weekend during the Olympic Games in Rio when male gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg during his vault performance in the men's qualifying round.

Said's left leg snapped during a landing on a vault during the competition, with the lower half of his shin dangling after the bone audibly snapped, but unfortunately the ordeal didn't end there, as he was potentially further injured upon being escorted out of the facility.

According to USA Today, as staff worked to get the 26-year-old out of the stadium, they appeared to lose control of his stretcher while approaching the edge of the floor, which sent it, and Said, falling to the floor. It is unclear if the second fall further aggravated the injury.

Said suffered a similar injury to his other leg in the months before 2012's Summer games in London, according to French journalist Anouk Corge.

"It was two months before London and it was the same thing, except to his other leg," Corge said. "It was on na vault, he landed, and the leg broke in the same way. It was terrible then and for it to happen again is traumatic."

Said was expected to be a top contender for a medal in the games after claiming gold during the rings competition at the 2013 European Championships.
